Even now, the definition of what is Art is really vague. Everyone have their own perception of things. Maybe Campindan was considering Fan-art as an image with posed, fully colored characters (since this is what we usually see in 2D fan-art), so after seeing a non-colored 3D model in almost a T-Pose he thought that it is not finished and you will develop her further up to the final render with colors and back-story. Though I'm not saying that the absence of colors and dynamic pose automatically means that it is not an Art. Just remember all this beautiful marble statues from the Renaissance, that are awesome even without colors. Similarly, in terms of a pose, sometimes even a slight tilt of the head might have the same impact as a very dynamic pose. So here we are coming back to my words that the definition of Art is quite vague and it doesn't have clearly distinguishable components. I would say that my opinion is really stereotypic - true Art is something that awakens emotions inside of us. I made quite a lot of sculpts up to this day, but don't consider any of them as an art, but rather anatomical practices. On the other side, I'm watching your progress with Ellie from the beginning, I know how much of time and efforts you have spent on her. I like how she looks. This awakens emotions inside of me and I'm calling it Art.
So I'm just thinking that Campindan was trying to say that the actual sculpt is an art, but overall the final image has more presentational characteristics instead of dramatic, but he fails to explain it better. Similarly, sorry if due to my bad English this comment sounds confusing (I remember you already had an issues with understanding my replies)
Because you put effort into it doesn't make it art.
I put effort into shitting and it's not an art.
This isn't art.
You can't consider this art, it's just a basic model. Fanmodel, I guess you can use?
Don't take that the wrong way. As I said, it's just a model and there's not really anything to consider art about it. I mean, it's not even finished, by the looks of things.
However, I do think it's a bloody great model.
