Haha I don't think that you can do that, copyright wise putting it inside l4d wouldn't be right I think.
But yah she will most likely be rigged and everything :)

oh you can, really! source engine is very modding friendly and it is allowed too i think. there are a lot of "fanmade" maps, skins and complete campaigns out there for l4d 1 and 2... even models which replace the original ones, have a look:

www.polycount.com/forum/showth…

www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnR0QO… (watch out for loud and strange sounds)

and damn ellie would fit in perfectly. ;)

Nice work Marie-Michelle!  Great attention to the details and folds in the clothing.  I find it interesting someone who's employed as a Character Artist is criticized for 'not knowing art'.  Strange.

I honestly believe that Campindan didn't want to hurt you. Though his words may sound a bit harsh

Even now, the definition of what is Art is really vague. Everyone have their own perception of things. Maybe Campindan was considering Fan-art as an image with posed, fully colored characters (since this is what we usually see in 2D fan-art), so after seeing a non-colored 3D model in almost a T-Pose he thought that it is not finished and you will develop her further up to the final render with colors and back-story. Though I'm not saying that the absence of colors and dynamic pose automatically means that it is not an Art. Just remember all this beautiful marble statues from the Renaissance, that are awesome even without colors. Similarly, in terms of a pose, sometimes even a slight tilt of the head might have the same impact as a very dynamic pose. So here we are coming back to my words that the definition of Art is quite vague and it doesn't have clearly distinguishable components. I would say that my opinion is really stereotypic - true Art is something that awakens emotions inside of us. I made quite a lot of sculpts up to this day, but don't consider any of them as an art, but rather anatomical practices. On the other side, I'm watching your progress with Ellie from the beginning, I know how much of time and efforts you have spent on her. I like how she looks. This awakens emotions inside of me and I'm calling it Art.

So I'm just thinking that Campindan was trying to say that the actual sculpt is an art, but overall the final image has more presentational characteristics instead of dramatic, but he fails to explain it better. Similarly, sorry if due to my bad English this comment sounds confusing (I remember you already had an issues with understanding my replies)

I understand what you mean Vir.
I'm not sure he was actually thinking that deep into things when he posted that comment but I sure understand that some people are.
I do agree that the definition of art is really different from a person to another.
From my own point of you I like it to be very large and surround a lot of things. I can think that almost everything, craft, that involve a lot of patience, hard work, attention to details, passion can be seen as an art. That's probably too broad for the vision of a lot of people but it's okay like that.
I respect everyone's opinion. It's mostly the way that campindan said it that sounded a bit funny and maybe not so deep.

I like to see game art and an actual work of art (even if it doesn't trigger emotion!) even if most people would disagree.

Yeah, I really didn't mean to sound rude or anything. What I meant is you can't consider this fan-art until you've at least posed it. As Vir said, "-sometimes even a slight tilt of the head might have the same impact as a very dynamic pose." All it needs is a pose (and colour if you plan on doing that, which I think you would do) and I'd consider it art then.

It's ok, you have a very narrow vision of what art is compare to some people I would say.
Especially when you are explaning it now I find it interesting to see that such a small thing as posing and color make such an impact on you.
Because from my point of you as a 3d artist, I think the sculpting part require so much more work and artistic vision than posing (wich is in 3d, a very technical part) and colors.
The un-posed model is only a requirement of modelling for game and I would not reject it as not an art piece because of it.
Thanks for sharing your opinion

Because you put effort into it doesn't make it art.

I put effort into shitting and it's not an art.

Oh, shit, sorry, didn't see your other reply.
You're seriously not going to colour this in or anything? That's kind of a let-down, but if you're fine with this, that's fine. However, I still don't think this can be considered art. As I said in another comment, it could be considered as fan-art at best.

And I've seen people doing 3D modelling, looks hard as fuck and everything, but I don't think that art is ranked by how difficult it is.

A lot of people don't consider game art as ''art''.
I have a very different vision of what art is and mine seems more broad.
Different opinion :)

My opinion is art is anything that you have created with so,e form of emotion involved. Because it will always have some aspect of yourself reflected by it

This isn't art.

You can't consider this art, it's just a basic model. Fanmodel, I guess you can use?

Don't take that the wrong way. As I said, it's just a model and there's not really anything to consider art about it. I mean, it's not even finished, by the looks of things.

However, I do think it's a bloody great model.

I'm not saying it's not art because it's not finished (although finishing a piece of art is usually seen as a positive), I'm saying this isn't art because... well, it's just a character model. A single character model posing in a T. It's concept art at best.

character model is still art, its a digital sculpture much like a clay sculpture it was still built, shaped, etc. regardless of what status its at right now its still a piece of made art, anything can be art by definition as long as creation was part of the motivation

Fair point, but when I hear "fan-art" I imagine, say, a drawing or a posed picture of characters from a work of fiction. Not an uncoloured model in a t-pose.

CHeck definiton of art. It is one of the first things you are taught in an art school. This IS considered art. The definitive and most famous artist in the world almost never finished his works and is considered as an inspiration to many. His inventions are possible today because of modern technology. Also check this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimesis.

Yup. Art is a copy of everything that exists, and after being perceived and experienced by the artist, accumulated in his mind, it is then transferred into form depending on his own interpretation.

in fact this is a digital sculpture with no paint so to say its not art is to say that the Michelangelo wasn't art cause he didn't paint the statue

some people here in DA are so pathetic, thinking that digital art is not an art (or even thinking that art can be defined). looks like the person who said it's not an art is a REALLY REAL artist and LEGITIMATELY LEGIT! hahahahaha!  btw, nice art, Azraele! I cant tell the difference between the official sculpts from naughty dog from your work! I love this model! ima watch you now! :D (Big Grin)
